C’River Water Board To Prosecute Pipeline Vandals

Limited (CRWBL) says henceforth, it will prosecute any person caught carrying out illegal connection of water pipes or vandalising its pipelines.
Managing Director of the board, Dr Godwin Igile, stated this in an interview with our correspodent in Calabar recently.
Igile said that the board had made efforts to provide potable water to the people but that some unscrupulous elements had continued to engage in criminal acts in the water supply system in the state.
“While the state government is working hard to provide portable water to the people, some unscrupulous elements have continued to work against it.
“My advice is that people should pay their water bills promptly and shun all vices, including illegal connection and vandalism of water pipes.
“The CRWBL will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute anyone caught vandalising water pipes, illegally connecting or reconnecting water pipes as well as collecting water rates illegally.
“Anybody found to be involved in any of these activities will be prosecuted according to the law of Cross River State, ” he said.
The managing director said that the Ekureku and Adadama water projects in Abi local government area being executed by the board were nearing completion.
“The present administration has embarked on reticulation of water at Ikom, Agbokim, Ajijimkpo, Akparabong, Okuni and Akam, ” he added.
He urged the residents to support the board’s effort at providing uninterrupted potable water supply to all parts of the state.
He disclosed that the board inherited almost moribund water schemes across the state, but promised his commitment towards resuscitating them.
Igile decried the high electricity bills being given to the board by the electricity distribution company, describing it as outrageous and exploitative.
“Our electricity bill per month is N8 million. We have begun to draw a dedicated electricity line to our facility so as to have sustainable power supply, ” he said.
