Port Controller Hails Host Community’s Peaceful Disposition

troller (CAC), Nigeria Customs Service, Onne Port command, Comptroller Abdullahi Babani, has expressed delight with the people of Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area for their peaceful disposition and cordial relationship.
Babani made the commendation when the Caretaker Committee Chairman of the Local Government, Isaac Ibiberebupakoabo paid him a courtesy visit in his office at Onne, Rivers State, on Wednesday.
According to him, Ogu/Bolo LGA, as one of their host communities had been very peaceful with the command, saying that in customs, they have passion for community relationship and as such have no challenges.
He assured that the relationship would be sustained to greater heights for improved business atmosphere, stressing that no revenue can be generated in an atmosphere of hostility but with peace businessmen would like to come and do business, which would further create employment opportunities.
The Onne Customs boss appealed to the CTC chairman to encourage his people to go into importation business as an empowerment, provide them with a piece of land to build Customs Barracks while assuring to work assiduously as directed by the Comptroller General of Customs, Col Hammed Ali.
He thanked the chairman for the visit which he said had opened a new channel of communication and promised to assist the local government in their little capacity.
Earlier, the Ogu/Bolo CTC boss, Isaac Ibiberebupakabo had said that the visit became necessary in order to know and interact with companies and organisations doing business within its jurisdiction, so as to rub minds on the challenges and proffer way forward for closer relationship as well as assist each other to create good business environment.
Ibiberebupakabo noted that Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area, as one of the communities of the port would continue to ensure that peace and cordial business relations exist among them and also thanked the controller for his warm reception.

Kenyan Runners Dominate Berlin Marathons
Kenya made it a clean sweep at the Berlin Marathon with Sabastian Sawe winning the men’s race and Rosemary Wanjiru triumphing in the women’s.
Sawe finished in two hours, two minutes and 16 seconds to make it three wins in his first three marathons.
The 30-year-old, who was victorious at this year’s London Marathon, set a sizzling pace as he left the field behind and ran much of the race surrounded only by his pacesetters.
Japan’s Akasaki Akira came second after a powerful latter half of the race, finishing almost four minutes behind Sawe, while Ethiopia’s Chimdessa Debele followed in third.
“I did my best and I am happy for this performance,” said Sawe.
“I am so happy for this year. I felt well but you cannot change the weather. Next year will be better.”
Sawe had Kelvin Kiptum’s 2023 world record of 2:00:35 in his sights when he reached halfway in 1:00:12, but faded towards the end.
In the women’s race, Wanjiru sped away from the lead pack after 25 kilometers before finishing in 2:21:05.
Ethiopia’s Dera Dida followed three seconds behind Wanjiru, with Azmera Gebru, also of Ethiopia, coming third in 2:21:29.
Wanjiru’s time was 12 minutes slower than compatriot Ruth Chepng’etich’s world record of 2:09:56, which she set in Chicago in 2024.
