‘No Tariff Cut For Residential Customers’
The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) yesterday said that the 50 per cent reduction in electricity tariff by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) does not affect residential consumers under the R1 and R2 tariff categories.
This clarification is contained a statement issued by Malam Ahmed Shekarau, Head, Public Affairs of the company, in Abuja.
The statement said that the clarification became necessary in view of the misconceptions by some of its customers that the recent reduction by NERC was for all categories of electricity consumers.
It said that the misconception had made some customers to resist payment of their electricity bills.
According to the statement, the tariff for customers in the R1 and R2 tariff class was not adjusted in the last tariff adjustment by the NERC.
It said the reduction announced by NERC was meant for commercial and industrial customers only.
NERC had said that residential customers under R1 and R2 would not also see any reversal or reduction in tariff as the industrial, commercial and high-end residential consumers whose tariff was increased. NERC had explained earlier on that the increase in tariff for residential consumers was frozen until June this year.
The statement said that the company would ensure total compliance with NERC directives on tariffs and sundry issues.
It urged its consumers to always settle their electricity bills promptly for better service delivery.
