Tanker Explosion Rocks Police Barracks In PH
A major of fire outbreak was averted at the Central Police Station Barracks at Agip junction by Aggrey Road in Port Harcourt; the Rivers State capital, yesterday, following the explosion of a Tanker containing diesel.
The Tide gathered that the loaded tanker which was stationery at the premises of the barracks, exploded at around 2pm, and the tanker gutted fire.
Residents of the barracks and other passersby were said to have been alerted by the sound of the explosion and fire which completely burnt the tanker and two police caravans.
Eyewitness account told The Tide that the inferno, which lasted for about an hour, may have been ignited by exposure to naked flames.
Another account said that the fire resulted from sheer carelessness in the parking and safety of the vehicle from the hustle and bustle of barracks life, adding that the fire may have been caused by spark from the burning stub of a cigarette.
No casualty was recorded in the tanker fire as it took the intervention of the Rivers State Fire Service to put off the inferno.
When The Tide visited the scene, the inferno has been brought under control.
