NGO Embarks On Tree Planting Campaign In Delta
The Executive Direc
tor, International Centre for Women Empowerment and Child Development (ICWECD), Mrs Bridget Anyafulu, said the non-governmental organisation, had embarked on tree planting campaign in secondary schools in Delta.
Anyafulu disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Asaba recently.
She said that the campaign was aimed at educating the youths, especially secondary school students, on the need to imbibe the culture of planting trees in their environment.
According to her, the campaign would also help the students to contribute their quota toward addressing the challenges posed by climate change which mostly affects them.
She called on youths in the country to imbibe the culture of planting trees, adding that trees would help to curb flooding in the country.
Anyafulu noted that increasing severe floods and storms world over, had devastating effects on homes and livelihoods of families.
The executive director noted that the problems of developing countries like Nigeria were compounded by climate change, compelling the people to remain in poverty.
She called on government at all levels to initiate policies and programmes that would ensure the protection of the environment.
