NDDC Assures On Quality Projects
The Niger Delta Devel
opment Commission, NDDC, has re- assured Stakeholders in the Niger Delta region that the interventionist agency would not compromise on standards in the execution of projects in the oil-rich region.
This commitment to excellence was made by the Executive Director, Projects of the Commission, Engr. Tuoyo Omatsuli, at the 2014 2nd Quarterly Dinner and conferment of fellowships of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) held in Abuja.
Omatsuli, who was one of the 12 engineers conferred with the NSE fellowship, said that the NDDC was working round the clock to complete all on-going projects, noting that the regular inspection and strict supervision of the contractors had made it difficult for projects to be abandoned or delayed unduly.
He said that the recognition given to him and the NDDC by the NSE was “a call to greater service and greater accountability.”
The NSE president, Engr. Ademola Olorunfemi, appealed to the Federal Government to always consider indigenous engineers when awarding contracts for development projects in the country.
He said: “We desire that the Nigerian professional must be given the due and deserved consideration and value placement in the industry and in governance. Government must recognise, therefore, as a matter of policy that Nigerian engineers must be given priority considerations in job placements or contracts award if efforts to tackle our developmental challenges and build a sustainable capacity must be achieved.
Olorunfemi said that the NSE would continue to partner with government at all levels to aid the implementation of the Nigerian Content Act in all sectors of the nation’s economy.
He said that the society would partner with the federal government to boost the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria, SMEDAN and the National Enterprise Development Programme NEDEP.
One crucial area worth deploying our resources to bring about positive impact at the moment is our educational sector. Some of our divisions and branches are already taking the initiative of intervening in that direction at the intermediary level, by organising sensitisation talks and quiz competitions in secondary schools, this is commendable.
I urge you as all as individuals and organisations, to combine efforts towards the up-lift of standards in our educational system, especially related disciplines,” the NSE president said.
