Lecturer Heads Rivers PPFN
A lecturer at the Ignatius
Ajuru University of Education, Ms Boma Peter-Kio has been elected to head the Rivers State branch of Planned Parenthood Federation of Nigeria (PPFN) for the next three years.
PPFN is an international organisation which preaches safe motherhood, child spacing and healthy living among couples.
Peter-Kio, the immediate past treasurer of the organisation was elected unopposed at the end of the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the state branch held at its office in Port Harcourt and attended by former chairmen, representatives from local government areas, Ministry of Health, legal profession, the media and volunteers from various walks of lives.
Speaking after the election, Ms Peter-Kio, said she will use the available structure to expand the primary aims and objectives of PPFN which centred on productive health.
According to her, a healthy and progressive family would continue to be mirage if couples continue to bear the number of children, they would not adequately cater for.
Earlier, the immediate past chairman, Barrister Iyalla Somiari, described his experience as rewarding, contending that the organisation has remain relevant 50 years after its formation in promoting reproductive health among couples.
Barrister Somiari, who is now the regional chairman of PPFN, said this year, efforts would be directed at expansion of activities by engaging in advocacy through partnership with private individual, organisations and corporate bodies as to achieve desired results.
In his progress report, the Project Manager, Mr Emmanuel Owor, said more volunteers are accepting the PPFN programmes.
