Lagos Community Charges Govt On Drainage Facilities
Ijedodo community in
Lagos State has called on the appropriate authorities to provide drainage in the area to address the problem of flooding being experienced by residents.
The Secretary, Community Development Area, Agayi 1, Ijedodo, Mr Nwabueze Igbozulike, told newsmen that whenever it rained heavily, many residents were trapped in their homes due to flooding.
“There is environmental disaster in Ijedodo community. Apart from the road that is impassable, the level of flooding in that community is beyond what the residents there can handle.
“A lot of homes have been submerged and the roads are impassable, If I say road, I’m exaggerating, what we have there is a pipeline; the access of the pipeline the community is using as a road. Even that pipeline access is impassable now.
“Government has not been able to construct a road for the community and (as for) that pipeline, the NNPC is not maintaining that access road that the community is using.
He appealed to the government to step in to provide living condition conducive to reducing flooding in the area.
“We are calling on the government; we are calling on all concerned bodies to come to the aid of the community and avert a major disaster.
“Because, as I speak some residents have not been able to get out of their homes for almost a week now and people cannot come in, people cannot go out.
“It is affecting business; it’s affecting even the school children; most of them cannot go to school again because the access to the community is even blocked and it is increasing the cost of living in the community.”
