NGO Harps On Community Involvement In Projects
A Non-Governmental
Organisation (NGO), Community Action for Popular Participation, on Thursday in Bwari called for more involvement of community residents in grassroots projects, to promote sustainable development in Nigeria.
Executive Director of the NGO, Kyauta Giwa, gave the advice while speaking with our correspondent as part of the organisation’s activities to mark the International Workers’ Day in the area.
She said lack of proper inclusion of the critical mass of community residents in ongoing implementation of community-based projects within the society hindered their economic growth.
She, therefore, advised governments at all levels to always engage residents of host communities, where projects such as water, school, hospitals and roads were located, to encourage self reliance.
Giwa said proper involvement of people at the grassroots level in community-based projects would help to provide them the needed opportunity to improve living standards.
“Engagement of community residents in community-based projects will also encourage joint efforts to tackle problems affecting local roads or culverts, without over-reliance on governments.”
The director explained that the practice whereby community residents engaged in collective efforts to solve problems in their society was fast eroding.
