RSUST, Foremost e-Varsity In Nigeria – Fakae
The Rivers State Univer
sity of Science and Technology (RSUST), Nkpolu-Oroworukwo, Port Harcourt has asserted itself as the foremost e-varsity in the country.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Barineme Beke Fakae made this assertion during the 26th convocation of the school held at the school’s campus, recently.
Fakae said the university is running a complete paperless senate for the past one year, adding that it would continue to blaze the trail with regards to e-learning.
According to him, the introduction of a biometric signature was timely as it marked the 200th senate meeting which he said also ended manual signing of attendance to senate meetings.
He further said that as part of the 26th convocation ceremony, the university’s new interactive and enterprise-wide website which is second to none was unveiled, stressing that the institution is now a destination of choice for e-exam and e-conferences.
“This e-varsity resolve has opened up the university to constructive partnership with national and international organisation,” Fakae opined and disclosed that more international linkages have sprung-up and the university is not leaving any stone unturned in its pursuit of world-class standard.
The Vice Chancellor hinted that the school had achieved a lot through Information and Communication Technology (ICT), which included computer based online testing, internet connectivity for all staff and students through the campus wide WIFI, developed in partnership with MTN, the e-senate, optimization of internal processes and digital lifestyle training course for all first and second year students.
According to him, these were achieved in partnership with Cinfores, Microsoft and Intel, adding, “one year after, I am pleased to inform you all that we have made more remarkable progress in our resolve to use cutting edge technology improve our service delivery as an institution.”
He further hinted that with the development of more e-service for process optimisation, accountability, transparency and improved service delivery, the university’s management in partnership with Samsung, Hp, Intel, Microsoft and Cinfores Ltd, has launched a Computer for All Programmes (CAP), to empower all students with access to ICT devices to be able to scale-up in their academic work, while benefitting from the various e-services and processes rolled out on the university’s portal.
The VC also used the ceremony to disclose that Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) donated 110 computers to the university, while Total E and P donated 50-work station e-library and thanked them for the gesture.
