‘No Cults War In Ataba’
There was no clash
between cult groups in Ataba last weekend neither was there a burial ceremony for a chief in the Ogbidor family in Ataba.
Speaking to The Tide in Port Harcourt as reported in the Monday edition of the paper, yesterday, the head of the Ogbidor family, Chief Christian Samuel Ogbidor said the late Solomon Samuel Ogbidor who was buried last Saturday was never installed as a chief neither was he referred to as one in his life time.
He said it was an error to refer to the deceased as a chief when he was not, noting that the misinformation created a wrong impression in the family and Ataba as it made many people to think that he, Chief Christain Ogbidor was dead while he was alive, and in good health.
Chief Ogbidor urged reporters to uphold the rules of professionalism and cross check their facts before going to the press and urged members of the public to disregard the story carried on the back page of the Monday edition of the paper.
Chief Ogbidor emphasised that Ataba has been free of cult-related crisis since 2013, adding that the clash by rival cult groups reported in the said publication did not happen in Ataba as nobody was injured or killed in the community.
He insisted that if there was any crisis, it did not occur in Ataba community and urged reporters to make clear distinction between Ataba town and those that happen within the waterways or Ataba territory.
The family head noted that the people of Ataba were determined to sustain the peace in the community and would not support any acts that would instigate crisis in the area.
