GM Tasks Publishers On Journalism Practice
The General Manager of
Rivers State Newspaper Corporation (RSNC), Mr. Celestine Ogolo, has charged members of the newly formed Association of Rivers Publishers (ARIP) to work towards improving the practice of Journalism in the state.
Ogolo who gave the charge during a courtesy call on him by executive of the association in his office in Port Harcourt also urged multinational organisations operating in the state to patronise the local media to enable them discharge their responsibilities to the public.
He said that the onus was now on the new association to create a platform that would make Rivers State the hub of the media industry in the Niger Delta and the entire Nigeria.
The General Manager said that the Association could achieve this if it engaged in responsive and developmental Journalism.
Ogolo described the local media as a very critical instrument of development, pledging that the Rivers State Newspaper Corporation would partner with them to ensure the realisation of the desired goal and objectives.
He also informed them that the corporation was due to taking delivery of its brand new Rotary machine and commended them for the visit.
Earlier, the Chairman of the association, Mr. Eddie Williams said that members of the Association had moved out from Rivers State Publishers Association (RIVPA), stating that RIVPA lacked the capacity of meeting the dreams of its founding fathers.
He disclosed that uptill this moment; RIVPA had no secretariat and a bank Account and declared that the Association of Rivers Publishers would tap into opportunities in the media industry in the state.
“The Association will liaise with the Ministry of Information/Communication to build capacity for local journalists in the state”, he said.
Williams who is the Publisher of the Envoy Newspaper commended the Rivers State Newspaper Corporation for remaining competitive inspite of the dominance of the electronic media in the state.
