FRSC Condemns Under-Aged Driving
The Rivers Sector Com
mander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, ( FRSC), Mr Sunday Oghenekaro, has tasked parents to desist from allowing under-aged children to drive their cars.
Oghenekaro told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) last Tuesday in Port Harcourt that it was wrong for affluent parents to allow their under-aged children to drive their vehicles.
He said that some of the road traffic crashes that occurred involved under-aged motorists.
The commander advised parents not to risk the lives of their children by giving cars to them to drive when they were not qualified and matured to do so.
He said that any person below the age of 18 was not qualified to drive.
“Even if someone is up to the age of 18 and above, such person has to be trained by a certified driving school and issued a certificate of competence by a Vehicle Inspection Officer.’’
Oghenekaro said that after undergoing the above processes, the person had to apply for driver’s license.
He said that it was only when a person had been issued a driver’s license that such person would be deemed to have qualified to drive.
He advised that even if one had been found to be qualified such person had to learn and imbibe positive driving attitude to ensure safety on the road.
