Rotary Scores Rivers High On Dev
Rotary District 9140 International has scored Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Amaechi high on the development and pursuing the welfare of Rivers people.
District Governor of Rotary District 9140, Dr. Charles Onianwan made the assertion when he led over 600 youth undergoing the body’s leadership programme in Port Harcourt on a one- day tour of projects executed by the Rivers State Government at the weekend.
Dr. Onianwan, after the inspection tour, said the projects have given the state a face-lift and placed it as the best in the country.
“The facilities on ground cannot be comprehended. It is very fantastic effort from government of Rivers State. It is wonderful on the level for which we are going through. The schools are very fine compared to other schools we find outside the state. When we were coming into the school complex, it looks as if we are entering a university complex.
“So, the facilities on ground showcase the effort of the state government to ensure that education gets to the grassroots for all”, he observed.
As a non-partisan group, he noted that Rotary’s role is to serve as a watchdog of society, by promoting and encouraging excellence amongst leaders, especially on projects that are people-oriented and aimed at ensuring good governance.
“So, we acknowledge hard-work in Rotary. Hard-work in Rotary means more work. So, we need to encourage ourselves to do what is good,” said Onianwan.
The Rotary District governor gave indication that the Amaechi- led administration was doing well, contrary to comments by detractors, who are bent on misleading the people by propagating wrong information against the governor and the state.
He, therefore, urged the people of the state continue to support the governor in order for the administration to achieve set goals.
Some of the projects visited were Model Primary Health Centre, Elekahia, Model Primary School in Elekahia, Ambassador Nne Kurubo Model Secondary School, Eleme, Afam Gas Power Station, and the Songhai Farm, Bunu-Tai.
