A’Ibom To Remove Abandoned Vehicles From Streets
The Akwa Ibom govern
ment says it will as from Monday, Sept. 16, start removing abandoned vehicles from the streets of Uyo to keep the town clean and orderly.
Mr Ignatius Edet, Chairman, Uyo Capital City Development Authority (UCCDA), who made this known in an interview last Sunday in Uyo, directed owners of such vehicles to remove them immediately or have them discarded by the development authority.
He said “we will no longer tolerate a situation whereby owners of abandoned vehicles convert the streets to dumping ground.
“As from Monday, Sept. 16, the authority will commence the removal of such vehicles to create space for motorists and other road users. “Many of the accidents experienced in Uyo are due to the lack of space, caused by abandoned vehicles.”
Edet, former Speaker of the state’s House of Assembly, also urged residents to do away with makeshift containers and other shanty shops in the state capital, saying they were illegal.
He also cautioned the public against building on water channels and displaying their wares along the roads.
The chairman urged property developers in the state to always contact the UCCDA before embarking on any building, saying defaulters would face appropriate sanctions.
