Pension Documentation Office Commences Work, Soon
A special department, known as, ‘One Stop Shop’ for Pension Matters designed to facilitate pension documentation will soon commence operations in the Rivers State Civil Service.
This indication was given recently by Dr. Rogers Weli, Chairman of the Committee set up to establish a one stop shop for pension documentation shortly after an inspection tour of its offices by the Head of Service, Barr. Samuel LongJohn.
Barr. Samuel LongJohn commended members of the committee for the diligent manner they carried out their assignment, stressing that the objective of setting up the One Stop Shop was to ease the difficulties encountered by pensioners in processing their documents as well as put the pension documentation procedure in proper perspective for the effective take off of the contributory pension scheme by 1st July, 2015.
He promised to address the problem of office space and called for cooperation by all stakeholders to ensure the success of the initiative, adding “whatever we are doing, let us remember that we all will pass through that system”.
The Head of Service also said he would liaise with the Chairman of the Civil Service Commission, Sir Ngo Martyns-Yellowe to discuss on the smooth commencement of operations while a meeting of Chief Accounting Officers, Directors of Administration, Pension Desk Officers and other relevant stakeholders in pension documentation would be convened to deliberate on outstanding issues.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Committee, Dr. Rogers Weli, who led the Head of Service round the Offices, located on the Ground Floor of the Podium Block in the State Secretariat Complex, said everything was set for commencement of work as office spaces had been furnished and equipped while efforts are on to develop a standard operating procedure for the department.
Dr. Weli, who is also the Permanent in the Establishment, Training and Pensions Bureau, also hinted that a sub-committee had been set up to draw up a mission statement in digital format that would drive home the message of actualizing the goal of the Head of Service to alleviate the plight of pensioners.
He said members of the committee and other staff were in high spirit to commence work but, however, requested for more office spaces to accommodate the different sections involved in the pension documentation process.
