Police Okay Okada Ban In Asaba
The Police Command in Delta State last Monday said crime and accident rate had dropped in Asaba following the ban on commercial motorcycle operation in the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, Mr Famous Ajieh, said in Asaba that the ban was a welcome development.
The state government had in November 2012 banned the operation of commercial motorcycles in Asaba to control crime and accident involving the bikes.
He said that most accidents that occurred before the ban were caused by the commercial cyclists, adding that since the ban, incidences of crime being perpetrated with motorcycles had dropped to zero.
“Besides, broken limbs and death, which used to be a daily occurrence in Asaba due to accidents involving motorcycles, has dropped to zero and our hospitals now record lower emergencies from motor accidents. “So, the ban was apt since it has guaranteed safety of life and property, it is a good thing.’’
Ajieh said the Commissioner of Police, Mr Ikechukwu Aduba, was making efforts to reduce crime in the state, noting that the command had diffused an Improvised Explosive Device planted at a residence in New World City, Ugbuwange, Warri.
The PPRO also said two of the 11 inmates, who escaped from the Government Remand Home Sapele on February 24, had been re-arrested. He said they were re-arrested at Warri by police from A Division.
