Communal Clashes: Commission Of Inquiry Gets Mandate
The Bayelsa State Governor Hon. Seriake Dickson has inaugurated a judicial commission of inquiry into the Agbere communal clashes, with a charge to unravel the immediate and remote causes of the crisis as well as identify the principal actors and their sponsors.
The Governor who gave the charge while inaugurating the commission at Government House, Yenagoa Monday, also tasked the commission to determine the extent of damage to property and loss of lives and also make necessary recommendation to ensure sanity and normalcy.
Dickson disclosed plans to send a bill to the staff Assembly address kidnapping in the state, adding that he would not hesitate to sign the bill when passed by the Assembly.
“We have made it very clear that wherever there is any breath of the peace and breakdown of law and order, government will use all its resources and authority to ensure that, the right thing is done and people are brought to book” the Governor warned.
He also threatened to deal with any traditional ruler caught aiding and abetting kidnapping and other related vices noting that the bill become imperative inorder to forestall disruption of government developmental projects.
The Governor urged youths to take advantage of government’s policies and programmes geared towards building their capacity.
Chairman of the Commission, Justice Ebiyerin Omukoro assured that, the Commission would discharge it duties satisfactorily to the best of it ability without fear or favour.
Other members are; Mr Diepreye Omubo secretary, Barrister Henry Apeli, Mr Emienbo Asayamo and Mr Brown Ekwuoba.
