Acting Governor Harps On Unity
The Acting Governor of Cross River State, Mr Efiok Cobham, has urged Nigerians to remain united, in spite of their diversity in culture.
He said that unity in diversity was the core philosophy behind the Nigerian Army’s West African Social Activities (WASA) scheme.
Cobham made the statement in Calabar at the 2012 edition of WASA, organised by the headquarters of the 13th Brigade of the Nigerian Army.
He said that Nigerians should at all times learn how to accommodate each other in the spirit of “unity in diversity” .
“For all of us who have been here, one thing I am taking home is that we may have different cultures but we operate on one stage.
“We must learn to accommodate one another in our diversity and we must find unity, that is what WASA is all about,’’ Cobham said.
He lauded the programme, saying the event was a celebration that had history as old as Nigeria.
“I will not fail to extol the excellent leadership shown by the brigade commander.
“Looking at the squash and basketball court, these are quite laudable developments in the promotion of sporting activities and of course this is the kind of leaders that we want in our country today.’’
The Commander, 13th Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Brig.-Gen., Shehu Yusuf, said that WASA was one of the army’s ssocial activities.
He said that the event was aimed at bringing together families and friends of serving army personnel in the state.
The event showcased various traditional dances, drama and songs.
It also featured activities geared toward civil-military relations.
Highlights of the occasion include presentation of gifts to senior military officers and civil servants.
