Delta Promises Constant Water Supply To Relief Camps
The Delta State Commissioner for Water Resources, Dr Chris Oghenechovwen, says the state government had concluded plans to construct permanent water schemes in all relief camps in the state.
Oghenechovwen told our correspondent in Asaba that the measure was to ensure constant availability of water in the camps always.
He said that there were emergency measures put in place presently at the various camps to ensure adequate water supply.
The Commissioner said that part of the emergency measures was the provision for water tankers to be on ground to supply water in the event of breakdown of the temporal water schemes in the various camps.
This, he said, might be occasioned by the growing population of the internally displaced persons, adding that the activation of the urban water scheme across the state some months ago had helped the government.
According to him, the permanent water structure will soon be activated and is expected to last between five and 10 years when activated.
The commissioner said the ministry would collaborate with other ministries, parastatal and agencies to ensure the success of the water scheme.
