NANS Urges FG To Implement UNEP Report
The Joint Campuses Committee of the National Association of
Nigerian Students (NANS) has urged the Federal Government to implement the
United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) report on Ogoniland.
The Secretary of the Committee, Comrade Michael Jaja who
said this in an interview with newsmen in Port Harcourt, said that the
association was surprised that one year after the release of the report, the
Ogoni environment still remained unclean.
According to him the immediate implementation of the UNEP
report has become necessary to save the Ogoni environment from further
degradation.
Meanwhile, the association has pledged its support to the
new administration of the Rivers State polytechnic, Bori.
Speaking in an interview with newsmen in Port Harcourt,
Comrade Jaja said that NANS is happy with the policies and programmes of the
new Rector of the Polytechnics.
He, however, stressed the need for students of the
institution to be focused while avoiding anything that would bring disrepute to
the institution.
