Police Canvasses Citizens’ Collaboration
The need for citizens to collaborate with the Police to effectively carry out their duties of protection of lives and property has been stressed.
The Rives State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Muhammed Indabawa made the call during the 18th edition of the Police Community Forum organised by the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) Rivers State Command at Ogu in Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area of Rivers State last Friday.
According to him, citizens should see safety and security as a challenge by organising stakeholders community safety partnership with community based organisations by creating public awareness, enjoining the public to synergy with the police for effective result.
The Rivers State Police boss, who was represented by the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Administration) Mr. Austen Sanomi said the police would not involve in land disputes except there is a bridge of peace, and landed PCRC for their foresight and vision in ensuring that the public have a firsthand knowledge on the workings of the police, reminding them that the police and the public should be partners in progress.
The chairman of the occasion, Engr. Charles Oruitemeka in his speech called on all to regard the police as their friend and commended the organisers for such an enlightenment forum.
Also speaking, the Ogu/Bolo Local Government Council Chairman, Dame Maureen Tamuo, who was represented by the Vice Chairman, Mr. Adokiye Iyaye reiterated the Council’s resolve to give security a priority attention although the area is calm, called for more understanding between the police and the public to further ensure peaceful atmosphere, and thanked PCRC for the programme.
In his speech, the State Chairman of PCRC, Hon. Austein Yong said Police Community Forum is a flagship project to bring the police and the community together in a dialogue on issues, find solutions militating against the smooth working relationship between the police and the public, as against the negative perspective on the police as well as telling the police on how they should police the community.
Earlier, the chairman, PCRC, Ogu/Bolo Division, Hon. Promise Wakama had noted with delight the success story of the programme and thanked all for being part of the success story.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
