Amaechi Lauds Baptist Church On 90th Anniversary
Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon Chibuike Amaechi, has charged churches in Nigeria to help government fight corruption in the country.
Governor Amaechi who stated this at the 90th Anniversary and dedication of a new church building of the First Baptist Church, Port Harcourt noted that churches had important roles to play changing the attitude and mindsets of the people.
Represented at the occasion by the Commissioner for Housing, Hon Marshall Stanley Uwom, Governor Amaechi assured that the present administration would continue to fight corruption at all levels, as he called on the churches to help government achieve that goal.
He also called on churches to pray for unity and security of the nation, following the several security threats from the Islamic sets, Boko Haram in some parts of the Northern state.
The governor commended the First Baptist Church for its 90th Anniversary and the dedication of the new church building, noting that the activities of the churches are so dear to the present administration and called for continue cooperation between the church and government to make the state and country a better place.
Earlier, in his exhortation, Dr Ademola Ishola urged political leaders in the country to fight corruption and not to encourage such civil vices.
Dr Ishola reminded politicians that the unity of the country is in their hands and therefore should work for the growth and development of the nation.
He assured that the churches especially the Baptist would continue to instill discipline and moral with the aims of keeping them away from corruption and evil practices.
