Delta Completes Arts, Crafts Training Centre
Delta government says it has completed the construction of an arts and crafts training centre in the state at a sum of N64.6 million.
The Commissioner, Directorate of Culture and Tourism in the state, Mr. Richard Mofe-Damijo, also made the declaration on Sunday in Asaba and said the centre was located at Emede, Isoko South Local Government Area of the state.
Mofe-Damijo said that the project was aimed at imparting creative and artistic skills in the trainees as well as reducing youth restiveness and creating job opportunities for gainful employment in the state.
He said also that the directorate had designed some employment schemes for youths through its Dream Alive Skill Laboratory.
He explained that through the scheme, youths would be trained in different aspects of creative arts, including professional script-writing and camera handling and editing.
The commissioner said that beneficiaries of the scheme would be given a one-stop shop starter-pack after the training to enable them to start their own businesses.
He also said that the state government had trained no fewer than 80 persons on musical and movie projects handling through its Talent Quest Studio, was established in 2009.
According to him, the Talent Quest Studio is a one-stop shop where talented youths begin and finish their musical or movie projects and beneficiaries of the programme assisted, free of charge, to publish their works.
He remarked that the success of the training programmes for youths in the state had contributed to the economic development of the state, especially in Asaba.
