NIM Tasks Contractors On Road Projects
The Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), Port Harcourt chapter, has called on contractors handling the East-West Road especially the Emohua and UNIPORT areas as well as the Choba-Uniport road to expedite action before the rains set in.
The chairman of NIM, Port Harcourt chapter, Dr Amina Fiberesima who made the call in a statement issued as part of activities marking the NIM Week and made available to The Tide in Port Harcourt yesterday decried the deplorable condition of the roads and appealed to the state government to take necessary action against any contractor that failed to meet the deadline.
Dr Fiberesima said the incessant traffic gridlock had been a great concern to the motoring public plying those routes, and further enjoined the government not to relent in its efforts to ensure free flow of traffic in all parts of Port Harcourt and its environs.
He also called for the reconstruction of UPE sand filled road and the Borikiri-New Road axis, saying that the suffering of residents of that axis was better imagined than experienced.
“The deplorable state of these roads affects free government of vehicles and inhabitants as well as business activities, he said and noted that the people would ever remain grateful to the Rivers State Government as it makes them enjoy the dividend of democracy.
The NIM chairman in his statement commended the government for resuming work on the construction of Trans-Kalabari road as well as transferring the payment of civil servants salaries to the ministry of finance, but called for strict support vision and monitoring in order to avoid any fowl play by the ministry staff.
“Any one caught in fraudulent act in the preparation of the salary vouchers should be made to face the wrath of the law or sanctioned,” he stated.
