Bus Driver, Conductor Arraigned Over Passenger’s Missing Goods
A commercial bus driver and his conductor were recently, charged before a Surulere Magistrates’ Court Lagos, with alleged theft of a passenger’s goods valued at N250,000.
The duo, Nnamdi Nwaobi, 32, and Sunday Amadi, 26, are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
Nwaobi resides at 31 Raimi St., Sari-Iganmu while Amadi lives at 12 Wewe St., also at Sari-Iganmu, a Lagos suburb.
They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Insp. Gabriel Ekundayo, told the court that the accused had on January 25 between Iganmu Bridge and Doyin Bus Stop, conspired and stole clothes packed in a bag belonging to a businessman, Emeka Nwanneka.
He said the conductor claimed to have collected the bag from the complainant and placed it on the bus and did not know when it fell off.
Ekundayo said the accused also claimed that when they stopped to pick the bag it had already “disappeared’’.
He said the offences contravened Sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Code.
Magistrate M.K.O. Fadeyi granted the accused persons bail in the sum of N100,000 each with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to May 9 for mention.
