FRSC Boss Urges Registration Of Law Vehicles
The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Rivers Command, Mrs. Mary Waakawa, has said despite the suspension order by the National Assembly in the issuance of new number plates and drivers licence, people will continue to buy new vehicles and are expected to register them.
Mrs. Wakawa who stated this during an interview with correspondents in Port Harcourt said since people are expected to acquire new cars, it is not possible to ban the production of vehicle number plates.
According to her, the balk of the money generated from the production of the number plates was accruable to the state governments, saying “it is the only money generated for the production that goes to the Corps”.
She said the production and distribution of number plates involved the Federal Internal Revenue Board, the Federal Road Safety Corps and the State Governments, stressing that Port Harcourt Command was not involved in the production of the new number plates.
The Sector Commander stated that they were produced in three centres throughout the Federation, namely Lagos, Awka and Abuja.
Mrs. Wakawa said the Commission had stopped issuance long ago following the order from the National Assembly, but however noted that the matter would be cleared after the public hearing.
