Five Petrol Stations Shut Over Pump Price Hike
No fewer than five petrol stations in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, have been shut down for flouting Federal Government’s directive and selling petrol over the pump price of N97 per litre.
Speaking to newsmen at Omoku, headquarters of the council, the Acting Chairman, Hon. Franklin Nwaobakata said that the action became imperative in a bid to ameliorate the plight of people in the area.
He said that petrol stations that refused to sell petrol to members of the public were also shut down as their attitude provoked artificial scarcity in the area.
Hon. Nwaobakata explained that no petroleum products dealer had the right to increase the pump price of petrol just as it was an offence for any dealer to hoard the product from members of the public.
Describing the attitude of some dealers as a mark of disrespect to constituted authority, the council boss warned that defaulters would be made to face the full wrath of the law.
The affected filling stations are Edyee Filling Station, Fezco Filling Station, Rotima Nigeria Limited and Lit Oil Filling Stations (1) and (11).
As the filling stations were shut down indefinitely, Hon. Nwaobakata expressed optimism that the situation would serve as a deterent to others, and urged dealers to desist from the act of using their position to inflict hardship on members of the society.
Meanwhile, the council boss has enjoined members of the public and transporters to exhibit mutual understanding as partners in business over the new pump price of N97 per litre of petrol.
In an interview, one of the staff of the affected filling stations who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that they sell petrol at N100 per litre because the landing cost was above N97 per litre.
