Rivers Police Arrest 555 For Robbery, Others …Recover 120 Firearms
The Rivers State Police have arrested 555 persons for various crimes ranging from robbery, kidnapping and cultism between August and December this year.
The State Commissioner of Police, Mr Suleiman Abba who stated this at the end of year media briefing in Port Harcourt over the weekend, gave a breakdown of the total arrest of the suspects.
According to him, the police arrested 350 for alleged involvement in robbery, 122 suspected kidnappers and 85 cultists within five months.
The Rivers police boss also said that his men recovered a total of 120 firearms and 1,190,000 live ammunitions from the suspects within the period under review.
Abba however praised his officers and men for being unrelenting in providing maximum security to lives and property and assured that his command would remain committed in the efforts to check all forms of criminalities in the state.
The state police boss reflected on the performance of his command in meeting security challenges, and scored his personnel high, saying that the greatest success of his command in crime fighting was the huge recovery of firearms and ammunitions within the last five months of this year.
According to him, Rivers State was rated fourth among 36 states of the federation with low crime rate. He remarked that his command was not lacking in terms of working materials to curtail the excesses of criminals in the state.
On the bank robbery in the state, Mr Abba stated that the command was able to foil various bank robbery operations. But he explained that it was not bank per se but customers attacked by robbers.
The state police boss while thanking members of the state for their unflinching support in providing useful information to the police which, according to him, led to the success recorded by his command, urged them not to relent in assisting the police perform better in the coming year.
