He said that NEMA was going into rehabilitation and disaster risk reduction adding that in areas where there is perennial flooding his organisation tried to persuade the concerned state government to provide drains for the people.
“We are providing relief materials now to victims and also looking at how the governments can provide drains to communities that are affected by flooding”, he added.
Mr Umesi expressed optimism that by the end of October flooding issue would be over in most areas except in Bayelsa and Delta States where the incident could occur between November and December.
According to him NEMA is planning to embark on sensitisation and advocacy visit to the chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Council and the state government as part of its programmes.
He said the sensitisation programme is mostly centred on flood disaster, fire out break or any other emergency cases at market places, communities or individual areas and urged members of the area to co-operate with the agency to enable it achieve their objectives.
