Banana Farm Project: Sogho Youths Sue For Peace
As reactions continue to trail the plan by Rivers State Government to site a Banana Farm Project in Sogho community in Khana Local Government Area, youths of the area have sued for peace saying, they are ready for any project by the government that would enhance peaceful and economic development of their people.
The youth President, Bua Sogho Community, Comrade Barikpoa Serekara urged the people to be patient and allow the eight-man committee set up by the community to liaise with the state government and people of Sogho to do their job.
Comrade Serekara who promised that youths of the area would maintain its peaceful disposition said what was of prime importance to the people was peace and rapid socio-economic development that would enhance their well being.
The youths leader expressed worry over negative publications by unauthorised persons, remarking that such publications could send wrong signals that there were crises in the area and that the people were not ready for projects that could attract meaningful development to them.
He urged the people of Sogho and Rivers State Government to disregard such publications stressing that the sponsors had no mandate to speak for people of the community on the project.
He explained that it was only members of the committee that had the people’s mandate to speak on the matter, and advised the youths and women in Sogho not to allow themselves to be deceived by self-seeking individuals.
The youths leader specifically warned unauthorised persons to stop making unguarded press comments on the project until the committee concludes its work.
He also advised members of the committee not to be distracted by side comments and unauthorised press statements but should rather concentrate and provide good suggestions to both the state government and the people of the community on the way forward.
