NGO Restates Commitment To Pre-School Education
A Port Harcourt-based Non-Governmental Organisation, the Empowerment Support Initiative (ESI) has restated its determination to provide quality pre-school education in Rivers State.
Administrator of ESI, Mr. Nowa Omoregbe stated this during a meeting with chairmen of Ogu/Bolo and Opobo /Nkoro local government areas at the ESI headquarter.
Omoregbe stated that the organisation has also decided to partner with corporate organisations in its effort to drive home this objective.
Mr. Omoregbe said the NGO has already redoubled its effort in a bid to enthroning quality pre-school education due to the dwindling fortune of education in the country especially in the primary and post-primary education. According to him, “ESI will continually appraise its programme and review policies where necessary to ensure that we provide quality primary school education for our children especially the less privileged in the local communities”.
The administrator disclosed that it has at the moment 17 permanent structure of its pre-school education under construction adding that construction work will begin in Ogu/Bolo and Opobo/Nkoro soon.
He added that ESI runs 70 pre-school nursery educations in 69 communities in nine local governments of the 23 local governments and asserted that it will rely on the good will of Nigerians to establish infrastructure for pre-school education in all the 23 local government areas.
In her speech, Chairman of Ogu/Bolo, Hon. Maureen Tamuno, said area was willing to collaborate with ESI to provide pre-school education in all the 23 local government areas.
Hon. Tamuno, who expressed displeasure at the abysmal performance of students in the last West Africa Examination called for holistic approach to arresting the situation.
According to her “Ogu/Bolo local government area has donated eight plots for the two units of Ogu and Bolo for the take-off of the pre-school education and will continually support ESI to realize its vision”
Similarly, the chairman of Opobo/Nkoro, Maclean Uranta, assured ESI that infrastructure for the take off of the school in the local government will be provided soon and restated that the programme will be flagged off during the foundation laying ceremony of the school in the local government area.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
