Remove Duty On Gas Cylinders, Body Urges FG
The President, Liquefied Petroleum Gas Association of Nigeria, Alhaji Awalu Ilu, has implored the Federal Government to remove duty and taxes on imported gas cylinders.
Ilu told newsmen on Wednesday in Lagos that such a step would help to reduce the price of cooking gas and encourage its usage.
According to him, Nigeria is the least consumer of cooking gas in the world and the situation is not good for the nation’s population and economy.
Ilu said, “Nigeria consumes 100,000 metric tonnes of cooking gas annually. When you divide this by the 150 million Nigerians, it means we are consuming an insignificant volume.
“The low consumption of the product has economic implications for the country and the country loses billions of naira annually due to poor investment and policy.”
He said the country was losing millions of job opportunities as a result of the low consumption of gas and urged the government to sensitise the people on the need to use the product.
