MTN, Nokia Sign Partnership Agreement
The MTN and Nokia
Group have signed a strategic Partnership agreement aimed at helping them expand into key markets within the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region.
The Tide gathered that, the framework agreement will permit the large community of MTN customers to benefit from the integration of Nokia devices and solutions.
Nokia and MTN previously partnered to introduce the Nokia C3 handset in Nigeria and the Nokia E7 phone and business tools for corporate clients in South Africa.
The Tide learnt that, “the intention is to drive similar bundles, services and experiences in other MTN markets and add value to customers”.
According to a statement from the company, a joint marketing and sales campaigns will be designed on a regional level, and Nokia mobile phones and smart phones will be combined with services such as orientation and navigation.
The companies will also offer hyper-local applications, such as the Ovi Life Tools, providing relevant data for farming, education and entertainment.
Nokia said, five million people in Nigeria, China India and Indonesia make use of the life tools agricultural information service via SMS.
According to Nokia, Nokia devices and life tools have also been used for an educational delivery project in the Philippines and Tanzania that provides access to educational materials.
The vice president for Nokia middle East and Africa, Chris Braam, said a strategic partnership agreement with MTN Group brings us an additional opportunity to strengthen their existing relationships and bring about strong consumer proposition to other markets.
He noted that, they are committed to delivering outstanding communications technologies to the growing community of 141 million MTN subscribers in the whole of middle East and Africa.
