MMIA Access Gate Project To Gulp N1bn
The Access Gate Project at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport Road, Ikeja, Lagos, will gulp over N1 billion for it to be expanded, says the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Integrated Intelligent Imaging West Africa Limited, Moyosola Niran-Oladunni.
Oladunni, while speaking in an interview with journalists explained that necessary arrangement had been made for work to commence on the project by his company but attributed the delay to the inability of the appropriate authority to relocate some underground cables.
According to him, the planned ten lanes expansion from the six lanes would take between 18 and 24 months to complete.
Appealing to travelers between the domestic and international wings of the airport to bear with the company when work begins, he said “the response from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) as regards the expansion and automation has been encouraging.
“We have the engineering approval for the design and some terms have to be looked into. We know that it is a project that the management of FAAN appreciates. Within the next few weeks, we should know where we are going with the project and we have been given the approval for work to begin”, he stressed.
The company’s chief executive recalled the limited challenges faced by the organization which led to the payment of N120 million debt and revealed that activities have equally picked up two years after.
Oladunni remarked: “The opening of the Oshodi road by the Lagos State Government affected its projected revenue generation by 27 per cent and has gone down to between 17 and 19 per cent as most motorists diverted to that route”.
He noted that non compliance to the rules and regulations by users of the road was one of the greatest challenges facing them in the cause of carrying out their duties, adding “one of the issues is compliance and that boils down to the attitude of Nigerians”.
Said Oladunni: “If you want to see the way Nigerians behave when they come to the access gate, this is where you see the mighty and the middle class.
“And this is about the only place where people want to show the type of persons they are. But we are living up to the task”.
