LP Set To Challenge Bayelsa Elections Results
The Bayelsa State chapter of the Labour Party, says it is ready to challenge all the state and national elections results in the state drawing its strength from alleged massive rigging by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
To actualise this goal, LP says, it has sought the services of some forensic experts to challenge the results of the National Assembly and State House of Assembly polls in the state.
State Chairman of the party, Bobo Adou , in an interview with journalists on the state of the party’s preparedness when the election tribunal starts sitting in Yenagoa, said LP would challenge the election results in nine constituencies of the state where elections were fraught with irregularities and fraud.
Already, the Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in the state capital said it had so far received three petitions from political parties.
Secretary of the Tribunal, Mrs. Cecilia Adedeji, confirmed the receipt of the petitions, saying that the tribunal was still expecting more petitions from aggrieved candidates of opposition political parties.
The LP Chairman said the party had documented visual evidence against some hired thugs and leaders of the ruling party in the state, who were alleged to have been involved in multiple thumb printing ,violence, ballot boxes and papers hijack and attack on opposition party agents.
Adou said, the party resolved to head to the tribunal to seek justice and allow the votes of the electorate to count
“We are ready to pursue our cases at the Tribunal because if we allow the fraud to go unchallenged, the Governorship election may be thrown into abyss of violence and irregularities,”he noted.
According to the Chairman, among results to be challenged by the Labour Party were those of the Kolokuma. Opokuma/Yenagoa Federal Constituency, the State Assembly election results of the Kolokuma/Opokuma 2, Sagbama Constituency 2, the Yenagoa Constituency 2,Yenagoa Constituency 1,the Ekeremor Constituency 1,2,3,Southern Ijaw Constituency 2 and 3 and Bayelsa West Senatorial district of the State.
