Overseas Scholarship: 13 Beneficiaries Return To PH
The 13 pioneer beneficiaries of the Rivers State Government Overseas Technical Skills Training programme have returned to the state from Norway.
They were among the 80 indigenes of Rivers state selected by the Rivers State Sustainable Development Agency (RSSDA) to be trained in oil and gas industry related skills.
Sources within the RSSDA has it that the second batch of the beneficiaries will be sent to Namibia before the end of this quarter.
Speaking during a reception ceremony organised by the Agency for the beneficiaries, the Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Agency, Mr. Noble Pepple thanked the beneficiaries for making the state proud while in Norway.
Mr. Pepple noted that the success of the beneficiaries has proved that the huge investment committed by the Rivers State Government for their training is not misplaced.
“We are gathered together today, to receive the young men and women who left the shores of Rivers State for technical training in Norway to learn skills that will be tremendous in the transformative progress, not only for them, but for the whole nation”, he said.
The RSSDA Executive Director said the Agency decided to bring to the event major players in the oil and gas industry with a view to sourcing for jobs for the beneficiaries. He also thanked the United Nations Institute for Training And Research (UNITAR) for their support to the RSSDA for the success of the programme.
In their different speeches, the representatives of Total and Stratman Nigeria Limited, who pledged their support, however, urged the beneficiaries to continue to develop themselves because the oil and gas industry is very competitive.
Earlier one of the beneficiaries, Mr. Ogbu Godpower, said they received the best trainings as far as the oil and gas industry is concerned.
