Man Hacks Step-Mother To Death
A 23-year-old man, last Thursday hacked his step-mother to death at Umuegbulu Community, in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The victim who was identified as Juliet Imeokpara died when her step-son named Innocent Imeokpara matcheted her several times leading to her death.
Shortly after wasting the life of his step-mother, Innocent reportedly returned to his room, where apparently he was planning for the next line of action.
But unknown to the culprit the fear-striken villagers had reported the incident to the police who immediately cordoned off the area before arresting him.
Innocent claimed that he took the action against his step-mother because she allegedly made his father to neglect and abandoned him for life.
The Rivers Police Public Relations Officers, Mrs Rita Inoma Abbey, who confirmed the incident said during the arrest of the culprit, the blood stained matchet used in committing the crime was also recovered. She said CID personnel have commenced investigation into the murder.
In another development, police in the state had killed a member of an armed robbery gang during a shootout.
The Tide gathered that the incident occurred when the three member suspects, in a red Volkswagen Golf Car with Reg No ATT908 BGM, coming from Ogbogoro Community to Egbelu-Ozuoba axis, suddenly attacked policemen at the check point, wounding one Sgt Onuora Chukwuma with service NO;15666.
The action reportedly forced other team members to fire swiftly.
The police P.R.O who confirmed the story said more police team from SOS, SARS Metro and Rumuolumeni Division led by the DC operation swung into quick action which forced two of the hoodlums to abandon their vehicle and dead member before escaping.
According to her, the fled armed robbery suspects escaped into the swampy forest area of Elaprawon with multiple injuries, adding that a search of the abandoned vehicle led to the discovery of the corpse of one of the robbers, N437,000 cash, several empty shell of Ak 47 ammunition, mask and face caps.
