Woman Activist Wants PH Nude Centres Closed
A Port Harcourt-based woman activist, Mrs. Christy Felix, has urged the Rivers government to arrest and prosecute hoteliers whose facilities are used for nude dancing by girls.
The activist who made the appeal in an interview with newsmen said that such facilities should be closed down while those patronising them should be arrested and prosecuted.
“It is a shame and a disgrace to see young ladies dance stark naked. I wish government could arrest and prosecute those behind such evil trade and expose them before the media like common criminals. “The media should beam its searchlight on such persons for the public, including their family members to see the nature and acts their wards are involved in”, she said.
Felix said that it was disheartening and embarrassing for people to designate their facilities as nude centres.
She argued that girls involved in the act were not to be blamed, noting that, “some of the girls are only trying to survive economically.
“Some of the girls have gone into prostitution because of helpless situations, they are not doing it for fun”, Felix explained.
She said that she had intimated the state’s First Lady, Mrs. Judith Amaechi, about the practice in Port Harcourt and called for urgent action before the situation gets out of hand.
Felix also urged the state government to investigate the report with a view to rehabilitating and empowering victims.
“If you don’t give these girls hope, they would continue because they were not doing it for pleasure”, she said.
Felix advised parents, especially mothers to properly train their children and monitor the girls in particular and the friends they kept.
