TUC Mobilises Members For 3-day Strike
The Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Rivers has set up two committees to mobilise and monitor its members during the three-day warning strike called by labour.
The Chairman of the congress in the state, Mr Hyginus Onuegbu, said last Friday at the state congress in Port Harcourt that the TUC agreed to join the NLC to call the government’s atten-tion to the non- implementation of the new minimum wage.
He also said the decision to join the NLC by the Central Working Committee (CWC) of TUC was to mount more pressure on the government to implement the new minimum wage.
“The first committee is to make sure that the strike will go on while the other will ensure and monitor participation during the strike.
“The TUC support to NLC will go a long way for effective actualisation of the minimum wage,” he said.
He said the non- implementation of the new wage was unfair because the government had earlier given a promise on the issue to workers.
