Intels Completes Finger Barths In Onne Port
Barely six months President Goodluck Jonathan performed the foundation laying ceremony for additional berths in Onne Federal Ocean Terminal, Integrated Logistic Services (INTELS) has completed the finger berths to accommodate container and general cargo vessels.
In a chat with The Tide on Wednesday during the flagging off of the 2010 HSE campaign week by Intels at Onne Port, the image maker of the company D. Harcourt Kalio, JP, said that the primary focus of Intels was hinged on port expansion programme which formed the basis for the concession agreement entered into between the Federal Government and Intels.
He said, the company in its zeal to contribute to the economic growth of the country had not rested on its oars toward keeping in line with the concession agreement, which he said had led to the transformation of Onne Port to the status of becoming the hub of oil and gas in the west and central African sub-region.
He noted that the container terminal was not in the original plan, but that INTELS in its initiative developed the container terminal to boost shipping activities in the oil and Gas free zone.
According to him, there are massive reclamation of land, road network linking the Federal Ocean and Lighter Terminal as well as new main gate and trailer park that forms part of the expansion programmes.
He re-affirmed Intels commitment towards port development, human capacity building, employment generation, revenue generation for the government, wealth creation, corporate social responsibility to the host communities and development of the maritime sector in Nigeria.
