Akhigbe Decries Insecurity In Nigeria
The former Chief of General Staff, retired Vice-Admiral, Mike Akhigbe, has decried the spate of kidnappings and general insecurity in Edo and other parts of the country.
Akhigbe expressed this worry on Sunday on the occasion of the second renaissance day of a socio-cultural group, Etsako Club 81.
He said that if the situation was not arrested within the shortest possible time, it would slow down the pace of development.
He said it was particularly regrettable that potential investors and professionals, who were interested in leadership position in the country, had been discouraged by problems of insecurity.
“I am particularly worried that this is happening at a time when we all are agitating for social and economic development of the country.
“There is need for the government to find a long lasting solution to the problem of insecurity for Vision 20:2020 to be achieved,’’ he said.
Meanwhile,Gov Adams Oshiomhole of Edo has promised to improve the lot of the people by providing amenities.
Represented on the occasion by the transition Chairman of Etsako West Local Government Area, Dr Bruno Oshionebo, the governor, however, sued for peace in the state.
Oshiomhole who stated that development could only be achieved in an atmosphere of peace, also stressed the need for the citizens to perform their civic duty of paying taxes.
“It is only when you pay your taxes and maintain peace that development can take place in the state,” he emphasised.
