Deteriorating East/West Road Worries Bayelsa Motorists
Motorists and commuters have complained of the deteriorating portion of the ever-busy East/West road linking the South South with the South West states.
Motorists who spoke with newsmen complained that the Kaiama axis of the road in Bayelsa State was gradually deteriorating.
The motorists said that vehicular traffic between Warri and Port Harcourt was stalled for several hours last weekend owing to the situation of the road, which also serves as a link to the South East.
They called on the Federal Government to expedite work on the turning of the East/West road into dual carriage way to lessen the hardship faced by commuters on the road.
A commuter, who gave his name as Kingsley Oboro, told newsmen that he spent four hours in one spot on his way from Warri to Yenagoa and had to take a longer route to get to his destination.
Oboro said that some travellers who could not proceed on their journey due to the heavy hold up had to retreat to nearby Kaiama to pass the night.
Commenting on the issue, Mr Sampson Iniyemo, the Sagbama Unit Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), said the unit had alerted the company handling the road to repair the affected portion.
