Military Officer Advocates Airports Privatization
A top military officer, Lt. Col. Edore Agbebuka has advocated the privatisation of Nigerian airports to ensure efficiency and better management.
Speaking to The Tide correspondent at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, Lt. Col. Agbebuka decried the poor condition of most airports in the country because of government’s inability to provide the necessary facilities that enable them meet international standards.
According to him, the status of the nation’s international airports are not befitting as an oil rich country, and stressed the need for the federal government to involve the private sector in the running of the airports for efficient management and operations.
He however, applauded the security and safety conditions at airports and airspace, pointing out that Nigeria has not witnessed incidents of plane crash in recent time.
Describing the services of the airlines as zero, he argued that their system of ticketing, booking and reservation are below the expected standard and called for proper training of the airlines’ staff.
Lt. Col. Agbebaku observed that the Port Harcourt International Airport deserves to be expanded to accommodate more aircraft and passengers seeking to travel.
