TIMA-RIV Managers Take Campaign to NURTW
As part of efforts to sensitise the public, particularly those in the commercial transport business about road traffic regulations and compliance, the Rivers State Road Traffic Management Authority (TIMA-RIV) has taken its campaign to the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).
Speaking to members of the NURTW during the visit, the chief executive officer of the traffic management authority, Nelson Jaja said that the rate at which traffic laws are being flouted in the state is becoming alarming.
He said that several drivers at various points in time have been caught disobeying the traffic light while several others have been seen driving against the traffic, pointing out that these are various traffic offences that are punishable.
Jaja opined that these various disobedience to traffic regulations have grossly contributed to the traffic jam that had been experienced in Port Harcourt, coupled with impatience among drivers.
To this end, the traffic authority, Jaja said will embark on real enforcement of traffic regulations and that offending vehicles would be arrested, and that it is on that note they have taken up the campaign to the NURTW.
Responding on behalf of NURTW, the Vice Chairman of the Union, Mr. Lawrence Williams thanked the team for the visit to the union, and expressed the readiness of NURTW to cooperate with the authority.
