Railway Operations To Resume In June
The operations of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) which has been paralysed for a long time now might be over, as The Tide can report that the operations of the NRC is billed to resume before the end of June this year.
The Port Harcourt Station Manager of the NRC, Mr. Abiodun Ohioma, who dropped this hint in a chat with The Tide in his office said efforts are in top gear towards ensuring that normal train service is restored this month.
According to him, “Federal Government is very serious this time around to ensure that train service operations is restored, and based on the promise of the former Minister for Transport, Alhaji Ibrahim Bio for which the present minister is still continuing, the necessary facilities and materials needed to fast track the return of normal train service are being provided”.
Furthermore “As I am talking to you now, we have received five locomotive engines out of the 25 that are being imported from China, and we have been given one of the locomotive engines to start off the operation”, Abiodun stated.
He also explained that the operations in Port Harcourt will from the resumption in June end at the Imo Gate, pending the coming of other locomotives that will enable NRC to undertake the North-Kano and Enugu train operations.
The station manager posited that the rail lines which currently is the narrow guage is being rehabilitated across the country to ensure that there is ease in resumption of operation.
