FG Names Edo, C’River For Pilot Tourism Investment
The Federal Government has selected Edo and Cross River as pilot states for investments in the tourism sector of the Nigerian economy, an official of the Edo government said.
Mr Abdul Oroh, the Edo Commissioner for Arts, Culture and Tourism, made the statement in Benin when the Foundation for Protection of Benin Heritage and Relics (FPBHR) paid him a courtesy visit.
A statement by the Ministry of Information, released in Benin on Sunday, quoted the commissioner as saying that toward the implementation of the plan, steps were on to harness all the cultural festivals in the state.
He said the government planned to establish Oba Ovonranmwen Cultural Museum and Cultural Centre at Ugbine in Ovia North Local Government Area of Edo.
Oroh said, “the time has come to identify all tourist sites, acquire them, fence them and place signboards to locate them so as to attract visitors.’’
He explained that the Ministries of Arts, Culture and Tourism and Agriculture, Commerce and Industry had been redesigned as wealth creating ministries and urged stakeholders to join hands with the government to ensure the attainment of set goals.
