‘Nyako, Atiku Are Still At War’
Aminu Iyawa, Senior Special Adviser on Media to Governor Murtala Nyako of Adamawa, says the governor and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar are yet to reconcile their political differences.
A national daily had last Friday, quoted Atiku’s associates as saying that Atiku and Nyako had reconciled and that Nyako planned a grand reception for the return of the former vice president to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
A statement issued by Iyawa and made available to newsmen yesterday, in Yola described the alleged meeting of the two politicians as mischievous and incorrect.
“We wish to refute the claim that the two had a meeting of reconciliation, let alone come to any political agreement or arrangement of whatever kind to the extend of fixing a date for a supposed reception.
“We want to make it abundantly clear that no such meeting ever took place, and therefore, urge Nigerians to disregard these self-serving statements that only expose the desperation of Atiku’s associates and aides,” he stated.
Iyawa added that “they are trying to find a credible platform for their political godfather to realise his ambition of becoming the next Aso Rock tenant.”
He said that Atiku was at liberty to join whichever party he wished, including the PDP, but that he must follow the due process by registering at his ward when the register would be opened to prospective party members.
Iyawa said PDP in the state had noted moves by some acclaimed Atiku associates who printed fake registration cards, adding that the state secretariat of the party had directed its attorneys to file a charge against such associates.
“Once again, we wish to reiterate that no reconciliation meeting ever took place between Nyako and Atiku; and no reception of whatever kind is being organised for Atiku’s return to PDP.
“We appreciate the desperation of the Atiku associates and aides, but we believe that their mercenary media tactics will always certainly do more harm to their principal than good,” Iyawa stressed.
