Govt Supports Early Child Education Programme
The Rivers State Government has pledged its support for the Empowerment Support Initiative (ESI), early child education programme describing it as a measure towards revamping the dwindling fortunes of education in the society.
The Secretary to the Rivers State Government (SSG) Hon. Magnus Abe stated this during an inspection tour of the new Model Nursery School at Eneka built by the (ESI), a non-governmental organization founded by the wife of Rivers State Governor, Dame Judith Amaechi.
He said the government was amazed and encouraged by the level of success recorded by the NGO in the campaign for mass literacy programme for the children, especially the less-privileged ones, describing the effort as a novelty whose time has come.
Hon. Abe added that the early child literacy programme in Rivers State was a corrective measure towards inculcating moral values early in the life of a child.
He expressed the state government’s optimism that the future of the children looks so bright adding that the initiative will contribute and complement to the effort of the state government’s human capital and educational advancement of the people.
Earlier, the Founder of ESI and wife of the Governor of Rivers State, Judith Amaechi, stated that about four hundred pupils are enrolled at the new school.
Mrs. Amaechi reiterated her determination to build permanent sites for the nursery schools across the 23 council areas of the state and added that construction work will soon commence at the ESI factory to be site at Port Harcourt International Airport road, Eneka.
