New Police Boss Assumes Office in Rivers
A new Commissioner of Police has been appointed for Rivers State. He is Mr. Suleiman Abba.
The new police boss who assumed office yesterday, in Port Harcourt, replaced Mr. Bala Hassan who has been posted as Commissioner of Police (Legal) Force Headquarters.
In a statement signed by the State Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), Mrs Rita Inoma-Abbey, said the development was as a result of the recent posting of Commissioners in some commands of the country.
According to the statement, the new police boss had served as unit Commander, Police Mobile Force Ikeja-Lagos, Commander Police Mobile Force, Abuja, DPO Wuse Abuja, and also as Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Criminal Investigation, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
Furthermore, the new commissioner of Police Abba served as the Deputy Commissioner of Police Kebbi and Kano states respectively, and Deputy Commissioner of Police and Commissioner in the office of the Force Secretary, Abuja, from where he was moved to serve in Rivers State as Commissioner of police.
In his speech, the new Police Commissioner called for strengthening of existing relationship and support of the people of the state to his predecessor, Mr Hassan to succeed.
He said policing of any society would only be enhanced, if the citizens of the area support the police with timely and accurate information.
Mr Abba said “as the new command boss, he would stand on existing laws of the federation to consolidate the command and repositioned it to protect lives and properties of the citizens.
He used the opportunity to thank the people of the state and the government, for the support given to him throughout his tenure as Commissioner of police in the state.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
